Reds sign 'The Beast'

Goalkeeper Jensen delighted to be a Crawley Town player

John Gregory has made his second signing ahead of the new season by bringing the hugely experienced goalkeeper Brian Jensen to the club.

Brian was at the Checkatrade.com Stadium today to have a medical and sign a one-year contract.

The hugely experienced Danish-born goalkeeper has made more than 400 appearances since coming to England in 2000 after starting his professional career in Demark before a spell in Dutch football with AZ Alkmaar.

He played 50 times for West Brom, including Premier League appearances, but it was at Burnley where 6ft 3in Brian, who is nicknamed ‘The Beast’ came to prominence.

In a decade at Turf Moor, Brian made more than 300 times for the Clarets and was part of the squad which won promotion to the Premier League in 2010. He was an ever present in Burnley's top-flight campaign.

After Burnley released him at the end of last season he signed for League Two Bury and became first choice last season, winning two Player of the Year awards at the end of the campaign.

John said: “I’m delighted to have Brian at the club. He’s still a superb goalkeeper who is in fantastic physical condition. He is a real presence in the penalty areas and a character who will be great in the dressing room and around the club.

“As usual, we have done a lot of research into our signings and I have spoken to a lot of managers and people in the game about Brian and without exception they have all spoken very highly of him.

“I think our fans will enjoy him because not only is he still a very good goalkeeper but he is a character, someone who will give his all for the club. We’re delighted to have him with us.”

Brian said: “I’m really excited about this new challenge at this stage of my career. I still feel I have a lot to offer. I had a really good season at Bury but the opportunity to move to an ambitious League One club and work with an experienced manager like John Gregory was too good to turn down.

“I’m delighted to be here and I can’t wait to show the Crawley fans what I have to offer.”
