Lewis Young joins Crawley Town

14 July 2014

Midfielder is 11th signing of the summer for Reds

Crawley Town are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Lewis Young.

The 24-year-old has agreed a one-year contract after a successful trial in pre-season with the club.

Lewis started his professional career in 2008 at Watford, making two appearances in the first team.

He had a loan spell at Hereford before joining Burton Albion for a season, when he also spent time on loan with Forest Green Rovers.

In 2012 Lewis joined Northampton Town and made 34 appearances in League Two for the Cobblers. In 2013 he linked up with Yeovil and played 17 times for the Glovers.

Last season he had short-term deals with Aldershot and Bury and has made more than 100 professional appearances.

Manager John Gregory said: “Lewis gives us something different. He’s quick and can play on either flank and even up front. We think he’s got a lot to offer and it’s our job to create the right environment for him to flourish.

“The signs are that we are doing that because he has been excellent in pre-season training and we saw flashes of what he is capable of on Friday against Billingshurst with his performance in the first half.”

Lewis comes from a famous footballing family. His elder brother Ashley plays for Manchester United.

Lewis said: “I’m very pleased to be a Crawley player. I’ve been very impressed with the manager and the other lads and I am looking forward to having a successful season in League One. It’s a fresh challenge for me and I can’t wait to show the Crawley fans what I can offer.”

Lewis will wear the No.14 shirt this season.
